What Is Hep C?

Hep C, or Hepatitis C, is a liver infection that is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is spread through contact with the blood of someone who has Hep C. 

Does Hep C Have Symptoms?

The only way that you can know if you have Hep C is to get tested, which is why we can give you a Hep C test in Winter Park. If symptoms do show up (and this is really rare) they will usually start within 6 to 12 weeks of exposure.

What Happens If My Hepatitis C Test Is Positive?

If your test is positive, or reactive, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you currently have Hep C. You will need to have an additional test to know for sure. 

Until recently, there was no cure for Hep C infections, but now you have options. With the right medications and regular visits to a healthcare professional, many people are totally cured! That means that their bodies are free from Hepatitis C. These treatments hardly have any side effects, and they have great success.

What Can I Do to Avoid Getting Hepatitis C?

Hep C can be transmitted through sexual activity, but MOST people become infected by sharing needles or syringes. 

If you use needles or syringes to inject drugs, hormones, or steroids, don’t share them! Use a clean one every time. Cleaning equipment with bleach will not prevent Hepatitis C.

You can exchange used needles and syringes to be safely disposed of and receive new, clean syringes  – along with Narcan and other items to ensure you use safely. The CDC estimates that programs like this reduce the spread of Hepatitis C by 50%.

When you have sex, you can talk to your partner(s) about using condoms on penises and sex toys, using latex gloves during finger play, and using condoms or dams during oral sex. We can ship condoms to your door for free if you live in one of the local counties we serve.
