Syringe Service Program (SSP) hours are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00am until 4:00pm at Hope & Help’s location. We will be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays for SSP.

Syringe Service Program is inspired by the Infectious Disease Elimination Act (IDEA), which makes it legal to exchange syringes in an approved location. At Hope & Help, we provide free, anonymous syringe exchange services for people who inject drugs. We provide new syringes and accept used syringes in exchange for safe disposal. What you walk away with is a sense of hope, preparedness, clean syringes, safe injection supplies, referrals for treatment when you’re ready, and a supportive environment where people who inject drugs and those close to them are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. IDEA Orlando is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health and Gilead Focus.

Our Program's Mission

The Program’s mission is to stop the spread of infectious diseases, like HIV and Hepatitis C, and connect you to health and wellness resources. The Program also supports community beautification and safety by ensuring that drug paraphernalia is not left to litter in our communities.

Our Harm Reduction Philosophy

Harm Reduction is a public health philosophy that empowers individuals, removes barriers to support, and provides realistic approaches to risk reduction in a safe and zero judgment environment. Harm Reduction supports a wide spectrum of strategies from safer drug injection use, to limiting certain behaviors, to abstinence, all with your needs put first.

Our Approach to Treatment

We support the health and wellness of every drug user. For some, quitting has saved their lives. For others, that may not be an option. We do not force anyone into treatment or judge anyone that walks through our doors. Our services are free, anonymous, and confidential. We choose to help people who use drugs by referrals, advocacy, and counseling.

How the Program Works

Initial Program enrollment takes at least 30-45 minutes and participants are encouraged to be screened for HIV and Hepatitis C at least every 3-months. Once enrolled, you will receive an enrollment card that you will need to present each time you return for services. The enrollment card also serves as an educational tool in case you are questioned by legal authorities.

Syringe Pickup Service

If you see a syringe in any part of Orange County, DO NOT TOUCH IT! The syringe may be used and could possibly carry viruses or other blood-borne diseases. Call IDEA Orlando at 407.749.2105 and we will pick it up and dispose of it safely.

How to Use Narcan

NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency with signs of breathing problems and severe sleepiness or not being able to respond. NARCAN® Nasal Spray is to be given right away and does not take the place of emergency medical care. Get emergency medical help right away after giving the first dose of NARCAN® Nasal Spray, even if the person wakes up.
